Comic-book writer Andrew Foley told SCI FI Wire that he has penned an interactive comic that extends the story of Showtime's canceled SF drama series Jeremiah, created by Babylon 5's J. Michael Straczynski. Platinum Studios, the production company that developed the series, will publish the free comic, titled Jeremiah—The Last Empire

This is the part that interests me most:
Foley credited Platinum chief executive Scott Mitchell Rosenberg with keeping the Jeremiah franchise alive. "Scott refuses to give up on Jeremiah," Foley said. "He's got a prequel film set at the time of the Big Death in development."

I'd bet that these folks have been in contact with Joe about this, but only on an unofficial basis. I'm not at all sure whether Joe would tell them what more he had in mind for the show, though.

The problem here is that, if i remember correctly, his problems were with MGM, the production company, wich holds the rights to jeremiah. They would also be the the ones from whom the comics are licensed, and who'd produce the prequel movie...
as long as that (or the persons at mgm... though it could be that the troublemakers were only in the tv-production branch, and don't have anything to do with comics) doesn't change, i don't think his professional "pride" (i don't know the right word) would allow him to work with them, and they probably wouldn't want him involved in any way.

Well, movie and series righhts are two seperate things, so MGM needn't necessarily have both, though very likely.

However, I don't think that MGM would be involved in the comics stuff, since the original comic is platinum studio property, so if Platinum decides to pick up the comic series. MGM wouldn't be involved.,

hm, ok, if platinum originally ownes jeremiah, then they can do it.
The question is how the original deal between MGM and Platinum looked like (ie. if things based on the show are "owned" by MGM or Platinum, as jms only used the basic setting, as far as i've heard)

Yeah, jms didn't follow the original that closely. :) In the original comic, Kurdy is white and extremely racist, for a start.

I don't have the article at hand*and not motivated enough to look at it), but I think thez want to pick up where JMS left with the new comic series.
