This could be useful if anyone's planning to create their own B5 space combat game. Gamespot's got the source code for MicroSoft's multiplayer space combat game Allegiance on their wsite.

If I thought I was up to the challenge I'd have given it a go myself (plus I lost my sight a little after ITF got cancelled, ironic). Pretty much a ready made game that just needs re tweaking. Better than making a mod though as you can alter what you like, but could be a bit big to download (no abbreviations please, speech synthesisers don't like it)?

Please look at www.freeallegiance.org

There they are setting up cvs servers and the like. Souvlaki there is also starting to get underway on a Babylon 5 conversion for the game. I suggest getting the first one community involved with this.

Agreed.

Old news.

Any of you guys interested in working on a Babylon 5 TC?

If I had the skills I certainly would be...but, um...I lack the skills;-)

Yes, I am. First, must teach myself DirectX, though. Currently working on that.

Biggles offered us hoasting and forum space if we can get a team together. The only thing I would be any good at is gameplay and maybe webmastering. I can make a Hello World program and that is about it.....

I think it's a bit soon for that; I haven't spent any time with the available tools yet, nor do I have a solid grasp of DirectX or the available source code. Also, keep in mind we'd have to provide a server for use while testing and also for eventual release. Have you been able to find out what Souv's up to yet?

He seems to be aol, I'll ask the dudes in thier irc room.

And yes it is too soon, but if we can get initial team together we can at least start designing concept stuff (what ships, factions, etc). We can also ask striker and see if they have a win32 system for the server. Or if we can get our paws on the server code those who are smart can port it to *nix environment. However the games uses DPlay, which iirc is windows only :(

The server code is part of what came with the source code release; a *nix version is already in the makings, as I understand it. We'd probably do best to modify that once that's done rather than try to re-invent the wheel in parallel.

So, croxis... any good with artwork?

What kind of artwork?

How about music once the graphics are done? any chance of using the B5:ITF music? What happened with that and contacting Christopher Frank in any case?

Bekenn

Well, I would certainly be in favor of Chris Franke music....

But in any case, no project here has actually been started yet.

Croxis: I was thinking about textures/ships and the like. You know, anything that isn't actually code.

I still need to familiarize myself with the Allegiance source before I'd be willing to get started with anything serious on this. Thus far, I haven't even been able to get it to compile.

Milkshape is the only program with a program for importing into allegiance, and I have had a very hard time learning to program. I suppose I could try to learn how to model and texture in other programs, but maybe we should inquire into the modding community to see if we can use other meshes/testures that have been allready created.

Bekenn

Well, that's certainly worth doing.

Y'know, what the heck... let's see what we can do with the tools currently available. The source should be easier to learn once I understand that stuff, anyway.

Yo, Biggles! You mentioned hosting?

Edit: I just checked out ICE, and wow, but this game is easy to mod!

I will inquire into the active flight sim mods and see if any of the artists wish to contribute thier work. I looked around at ICE too and it is easy to make a core, but the hex got me a bit confused.
