FIRST ONES ICON

I know this allready exists in my paint shop but I think this bears discussion as an entirely different thread.

I've only had a few bits of feedback on the Icon and its rationale. What I am after is an Icon we ALL like... or as close as I can get to that. I want to make this as democratic as I can so if you are a registered member please post your response to this Icon. Treat it as a draft, to be ratified by all of us.

Don't be afraid to voice your concerns either.... DG has, and I'm thinking about mods to suit his tastes.... but I want to make sure I have alot more feedback before I go back to the 'shop'.

So please.. drop your feedback here, rank it out of ten... tell me what sucks, what rocks or whatever. Feel free to grab and hack the pic if you so desire and repost.

I think this is an important piece of 'property' to unify us all, a banner to march under, some colours to fly from the mast, so I'd like everyone to have thier say, and I mean EVERYONE.

If the Icon as it stands is suffcient and you'd be happy to wear it on your ship simply post a "YES"

If not, a "NO" is ok and I don't expect any more than that but I would much prefer some feedback.

VorloDevs please also add yours too, you may hold a lofty position but you are all Firstones as well. Your vote counts for 'one' like everyone else.

FIRST ONES LOGO RATIONALE

Black fifties style bullet shaped rocket ship alludes to spaceships etc... it also looks much like a reversed shield.... good symbols...

Chalice of fire - what better symbol for a game which is/was called ITF... keeping the home fires burning

1st 1 is also hidden partially in the symbol.... two ones hold up an abridged flame which can be viewed as a graphically abridged "st" as in first...

Motor flames.. act as rank/post count markers... the two parts of the symbol are not seen without the other.... the represent membership.. and the "quality" ofthat membership

Heroic deeds.... big kill tallies for the ITF crew... whatever. might earn you more "post/karma points to add "flames" to your motor..

Good concept, but I'd change 3 things.

1. The actual, black bullet is too Star Trek IMO, I'd change the sides of the bullet to straight, vertical lines. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not a big fan of the fifties. http://216.15.145.59/mainforums/tongue.gif FirstOnes is a good bunch of people, let's show that we're not just taking after other people's ideas.

2. The flame idea is a good one, but the flames that the "karma points" you mentioned add, are too claw-like with their round end and overall bulkiness. I'd change them so that they would be a bit more leaner, and that the round end of the flame would be changed to a form that would fit seamlessly into the BIG flame, if the two would be united. Just to show that we work united, not with everyone doing their own thing around the "Main Idea".

3. The centerpiece of the flame resembles a tie too much, thus representing the suits that we have fought so long and hard against. I'd change it to a symmetrical cone, getting smaller from the round top end until the very beak at the bottom.

I don't have a homepage where I could put my proposal, but I'll edit the pic my way, and throw it to you with an e-mail, if that's all right.

I'll just go and do my thing now.

much as he described.... only thing I don't quite gel with is the 'pip' flames..... they look a little too much like shadows legs or something.. a little too gothic.... and flames just dont do that..... come out at almost a right angle from another body of flame.... what does everyone else think ? I'll do another version after some more input.

And it seems the flames arrangement will make a good kill marker... so be it... I guess it will have a whole lot more relevance to the game. So unless anyone has any objections I think the flames should become kill tallies. If thats the case.... someone better come up with the ladder for which flames warrant what number of flames.... assists... cap ships etc etc etc...

Well, let's consider positioning. I say either on the sides of the cockpit (where Garibaldi's Daffy Duck is) of on the left upper and lower wings, oppisit the EA flash and at a similer size so as not to obscure any wing art.

if I said 'Horse' would you immediately think 'car' ? modes of transport yes but the latter killed the place in society the former enjoyed. So not really benefical symbology.....

Well, just to throw in my opinion on THIS... I think the fact that we are PLAYING a B5 game pretty much makes a B5 related icon irrelevant, plus, what if you're flying a minbari nial or something... a picture of the station would not make sense... I think the goal here is not to make a B5 or ITF icon, but a FIRSTONES icon.... so it should represent our community, not necessarily the game.. ideally it should be something that would make sense for firstones to use in other games as well, methinks

I don't think it could be regarded as being in the B5 style, but then that obviously wasn't the intent. It's a great indicator of a fan group, similar to the ASCII jumpgate ("<*>") below.

So, YES, and I would prefer an even straighter flame, more of a tic tjam a tear-drop.

I think you should keep the "shadow legs" for flame.

Two reasons

1 Symbolises "the Darkness" that we have all been through to get to where we are today.

2 Symbolises that "the Darkness" is behind us now and we are "blasting upwards" to a new hope.

Hmm... I'm starting to think that the whole design is a bit rickety, but since I have nothing better or constructive to add, I'll backpedal on this one. I don't really think you can have a logo that'll please the whole community, but I'll keep lurking, see what emerges.

Flames are tasty though, very nice even considering the complexity is climbing. I avoided that because I know how small this Icon is going to get on the ships it is intended for.

I also believe that is would look better with a missile launcher, ray gun, warp drive, rotating section, and perhaps a window. Then, you could detail the interior! http://216.15.145.59/mainforums/wink.gif
Landing gear would also be nice, along with backup engines and a payload bay with unfolding solar panels. Then, you could add some escape pods as a finishing touch.
