I know this isn't the general area for this but, since someone from this forum e-mailed me earlier about this, I thought I'd post it here.

SULFNBK.EXE is NOT a virus... and deleting it may cause problems to your Windows Operating System.

If you have received an e-mail saying you may have gotten this virus, just ignore it.

If you have already deleted the file, and emptied the trash, you can restore the file using your CAB files for your operating system.

Cheers!

SULFNBK.EXE.....when I heard about the virus...I knew that I had heard that name somewhere before...and that it couldn't be a virus....not smart deleting a file that takes care of long filenames...

So in essence it is the email that is a virus?

Kinda like this virus:

Hello, I am a virus. However, my creator is not very good at programming, so if you could be so kind, could you please carry out the following three steps:
Please email me to everyone on your contact list.
Click on start, then programs, then command prompt.
type format c: and press enter, then answer "yes" to all questions asking if you are sure.
Thank you, and have a nice day!

We got that message on the wotmania board too...
this is what it basically is about.

Someone mails you telling you that you've got to remove the SULFNBK.EXE file in your windows folder. Don't do this however, as it will take away your abiliy to create long file names...

so it's not a virus...

I know its so funny actually. My whole university was paralyzed with fear yesterday and we were flooded with support calls with people crying for help.

It could have been nasty though....

Just to muddy the waters a little.... Believe it or not but there is a virus called SULFNBK.EXE. It's an old virus dating back to late '96. It replaced the SULFNBK.exe file with it's own version which then caused crashes.

It's caught by all the virus checkers though so you all should be clear so long as you've updated your definitions since late '96. http://216.15.145.59/mainforums/smile.gif

JackN is right to say that the current email doing the rounds is a hoax.

Clear as mud. Told ya. http://216.15.145.59/mainforums/biggrin.gif

Odd I've seen the warning several places, but I have yet to see the actual message.

I think its kinda creative, getting people to disable their own computers.

What drives me insane, is that people keep falling for it, ALL you have to do when you get a virus warning is to check the Mcafee website, right on the front page is info about the Hoax. but people believe anything they get in an email.

Plus, it's very poor form (and something that can get senders tossed off their ISP) to forward chain letters, and all that hoax was is a chain letter. It does reinforce my opinion of humanity in general, though.

The problem is there are so many paranoid people out there who will believe anything, then try and convince everyone else that it is true. That is how these things spread.

You know, I think he might be! KILL!

Macs may not have a pretty choose-your-own-colour taskbar, but they have a very functional OS.
And if you want pretty, just go look at OSX. That is easily the prettiest OS I have ever seen. It is so pleasing to look at. No sharp angles, no flat colours... it's just beautiful.
Pity about the backend though.
