Wow just from looking at the small images in the Gallery section, the new station model looks stunning!!!

Oh and there's a myspace page up now as well:

Check out the 3rd video, it looks new to me, never seen it before. Its got a nice voice over from G'Kar. Doesn't seem like the whole thing though, kinda stops short.

G'Kars head looks pretty funny at the end there ;)

I believe that video is the low-res version of the opening sequence shown at that convention a few months ago.

No idea why it's up. As far as I know, the final version had been completed back then, so its an open question why they're still showing the rough cut.

ShadowDancer

Damn those images of the new model station look fracking awesome!! Absolutely beautiful!

Edit: Just as an aside, do you reckon if TLT goes really well and they commission more, might we see something about Marcus?

David of Mac
31 May 2007, 04:58 PM
Well, depends how Lost they want to go with The Lost Tales. In the books and short stories, we've seen the Shadow attack where his brother was killed, and his eventual revivification, which are the two most obvious places to do a Marcus story.

So they could either adapt one of those (or totally ignore them and do a new take on the subject), or they could do a story set during the run of the show where he could appear (I still have my fingers crossed to see what it was going on with the data crystal hidden inside the dead cat).

that third video was too intense, I couldn't watch the beginning.

Did the totally redo the....end....with modern CGI?

Is the model from the trailer which is up. If so, Fabio did a great job....

Yes, that sequence is a complete re-creation. It doesn't quite explode the same way.

1 June 2007, 07:47 AM
I have to say that the most impressive scene from the trailer is the final shot of Sheridan in the Starfury. I've been waiting so long for a shot like that; it's glad to see that they can do the virtual cockpit with a real actor composited into the shot without having to keep the camera locked down.

Great stuff.

Falcon1
1 June 2007, 08:10 AM
Yeah it sure is. It actually looks real and as you say not using the locked position camera just makes it so much better.

ShadowDancer

Finally some new B5 to look forward to.

The trailer is good, a well done teaser for B5 fans.

And that "temp" video at the MySpace page... sad, yet uplifting.

Babylon 5, Babylon 5... endures.

Holy shit. Holy... shit. Shitting shit that's holy.

I decided to take a closer look at the wingart on that Starfury that buzzes the camera at the beginning of the battle scene, just to see what it was, and after hitting the freeze frame, I saw that the art was very, very familiar.

Holy shit.

What's the wing art?

EDIT: HOLY CRAP, that's the boxing aardvark wing art I created! Awesome! After the DVD is released, I may try to get in touch with someone at Atmosphere to see if I can get a high-res version of that shot....

Congrats on making it into the show ;)

afaik Atmosphere is doing the VFX, not Zoic

samuelk
4 June 2007, 11:23 AM
Hmmm...maybe there's more than one FX studio working on TLT. According to IMDB, there are some Zoic people working on the show.

Where did they (whomever "they" may turn out to be) pick your image up from?

Jake

samuelk
4 June 2007, 12:25 PM
Here's what I'm guessing happened.

Back in 2001, Slade -- who is a forum member and also an FX guru working on The Legend of the Rangers -- asked for people to submit designs for FirstOnes wing art, so he could put it on a StarFury and use it in the LotR series (if it ever came to be, which it of course didn't).

My guess is that the Aardvark art was added to a library of B5 image assets which would be property of Warner Brothers. When production on The Lost Tales began, WB handed over the image library to the new FX studio, and they pulled it from there.

I dunno, though...maybe Slade worked on The Lost Tales? FX artists tend to jump around from studio to studio, just like in any other career.

samuelk
4 June 2007, 12:28 PM
I did some searching, and as it turns out, Slade works for Atmosphere VFX.

I think that answers that. :)

samuelk
4 June 2007, 01:39 PM
Well, Slade sent me an e-mail confirming that he added the aardvark to the fury. Awesome.

Zoic has nothing to do with B5TLT, it's Atmosphere VFX.

samuelk
4 June 2007, 02:39 PM
Yeah, we've established that. Though you're wrong about Zoic having nothing to do with TLT. They DID do some shots for TLT towards the end of production because Atmosphere was too busy.

HuntSmacker

Well since that particular Starfury plows into a Centauri Battlecruiser after being winged, I doubt... :P

Random Chaos

Well since that particular Starfury plows into a Centauri Battlecruiser after being winged, I doubt... :P

It's a dream sequence, so you never know.

But I doubt it's anyone significant. It's probably just a random fighter. I'd imagine that JMS's notes (or the director's) notes for the CGI artists would be pretty strict about the design of major character's Starfuries.

Biggles
4 June 2007, 08:13 PM

We need to make sure this all gets noted in TGM, and at midwinter as well. :)

Now for the real fun part: I wonder if any of the other submissions made it in as wingart? Oh, this will be one hell of a freeze-frame session once it comes out :D

So the work of one of our members was featured in a B5 release, as entered into it by yet another member. Does that make us famous yet? Congrats, Sam. There must have truly been an interesting expression on your face when you found out.

We must set up webcams on every computer to record people's expression when their art appears on starfuries!

Sam thats uber cool dude! You must be on cloud 9 :) I do remember that call for wingart, that was quite a while ago now. I bet you'll be wearing out the pause/playback buttons once you get the dvd ;)

Browsing through the site, I noticed that the picture of President Clark in the "Cast & Crew - Supporting Cast" section is actually a picture of Bruce Gray, who played Sheridan's interrogator in the 4th season episode "Intersections in Real Time".
